i just got a battery about 3 weeks ago from wal mart and it is a maxx life 65N.well it has 800 cranking amps and 1000 cold cranking amps.(maybe backwords)any way here i am into this battery for 3 weeks and it wont crank the car anymore.

I have noticed it getting harder to start in the past week but thought nothing of it.my interior dash lights whould dim as i was driving.i dont understand. it is the right size battery why wont it stay charged????i havent checked the alternator yet but i assume no problems with that as the car stays running and is a 3 year old alt.

Any ideas why the battery isnt cranking if it is the right size??

clean of corrosion and the battery is a walmart brand battery.i only got it because it was 62 bucks and i was drained from the motor swap.i have a problem now where i cant get my money back only store credit cause i washed the reciept.it has a free replacment warranty but it is just a PITA.any other ideas????Do you think the alternator might be on its way out and therefore not charging the battery????

if the lights start dimming even while you're driving most probably the altenator is on the way out.

have a multimeter? check the battery with the car off, should be around 12.4-12.6 volts. With the car on, should be from 13.2 up to 14+. Also, could be a starter. YOu should just bring it down to an advance or an auto zone and have them wheel out their tester in the parking lot, would be the easiest thing to do.

i have a mutlimeter but not with me right now.the battery is brand new and shouldnt be dead already.i have to be honest this is the third one i have gotten but the other batteries were not the right cranking amps which is why i replaced them.im gonna have to assume worst case senario is the alternator and have it tested.Any other ideas????

not all batteries are the exact same cranking amps even if the same size. I'd say the alternator is causing your problems. have them check the alternator and battery both though.

some battery cam be dead even after 2 days of use.

have friends bought brand new battery and it's dead on the third day.

another friend has 1 month on new battery and it's dead as well.

another friends have 4 months old battery and it's dead as well.

all 3 i've checked their connection, altenator etc and it's in good condition.

none of them had forget turn off headlight etc. it just went bad over the time.

thank god for 1, 2, 3 years warranty.

so my concensus, battery quality, externall they all look a like, but quality wise some just are better than others.

just go back to wally world, have em check it, if its bad, have em replace it, if its good, then go over to ricerzone, and have em do an alternator check.
its not that hard.

Dead on.

I currently have a 550 CCA battery in mine. My 850 CCA stocker died when I ran it down on the 4th listening to music for too long (tried to charge it but it wouldn't come back). I had this 550 out of a minivan with a 4 banger and knew it was good, so until next payday (only once a month), I'm runnin' it. I have not had a single issue with the tiny battery; cranks normal, stays charged, and my lights don't dim even with my system on pretty loud (2400 watts).

So something must be wrong.

i had it checked and it is the Alternator which is running at like 11-12 amps.barley enough to run the car and not enough to charge the battery.looks like i need an alternator.

the alternator probably ruined those other batteries. happened to my old car until I replaced the alt because the pulley started making noise.

Well the Alternator never made a noise.I just put a new alt in and the car is running outside as i type.Hopeing the battery will take the charge which it should being that it is only 3 weeks old.But i was ran down to nothing and could have damaged it.we shall see.I drove the car and had all the accesories running and the check gauges light was flickering but i think that might be due to a weak battery.Oh and the Alternator was free but it was a PITA cause i had to talk them into calling California for me to get my info which is where i bought it.

Ok well i went outside started the car and it started just fine.So i went to blockbuster and when i started the car to leave it had nothing. So i had someone jump start the car and when i put in in reverse it died.So i very fast put it in nuetral and it fired up with no problems.im begining to think there is a bad ground or my terminals need replacing even though they look ok.Every stop light the volts whould drop and it whould try to stall out.I had to brake torque or keep the car in nuetral at a stop.So now we know the alternator is good because it is brand new.Now i think my problem lies in the cables???What do you guys think??

well, do you get the battery charge fully at the store before you replace the altenator?

if you put on new altenator and using a low charge battery you can kissed your new altenator goodbye sooner or later.

blah it had a charge somewhat. Not fully though. The battery has power and i know this cause i can go to start it and nothing but if i put cables on it and tap the cables together it will let off a nice spark. This is why im starting to think it is a bad connection to the battery.I am trying to narrow down my options.Any body got any ideas??
