I searched for this and all I got was overheating threads...

Well mine is doing the opposite... Or so it says. For about two weeks now whenever I drive the temp guage never shows the engine getting to a decent operating temperature.

Just so you know what I'm talking about, this is after driving for about 30-40 minutes at about 70mph.

Thermostat? I don't know enough about this stuff yet to diagnose it myself...

Thanks in advance!

I've found that my V8 loves to run alittle cooler than normal. I just have to find a way to make it stay that cool on the 100 degree days down here. I actually gain a couple MPG driving when the suns down and the temp guage is about 1/4 the way like yours. Maybe someone else can shead some light if it will harm something....

Yeh, the thing that has me curious is that I've had the car for about a year and a half and this is the first time it has done that. Usually it goes straight to the center and stays there.

Thermostat?
Chuck,

I had the same thing in our old Escort. Changed the t-stat and it went back to normal.

Yeh I'm figuring as much, I just wanted to check with everyone to see if there was anything else that might be causing it!

Thanks for the input!

Yeh so I threw in a new thermostat and it warmed right up!

Thanks for the help!

Huh! My 94 has done that since the day I got it. I always just assumed it was the way the factory gauge read. I'll have to swap my tstat out now and see if it goes to normal.

Yeh I figured for 10 bucks I'll change it out. I don't know if there are any bad effects of having it read cold, but I don't want to take the chance... I'm too poor to fix anything bigger!

You know I have the same issue... I had a scanner on it a couple of days ago and when it was right around the same spot as yours CaliHwyPatrol it was reading 195.

your tstat was probably stuck open. Better that than stuck closed heh. But if the engine doesnt get to operating temperature it can create more wear on the engine.
