I own a 1995 Cougar 4.6, recently the Overdrive switch/button burned out and I have no clue as to how I get the shifter knob off to replace it..can anyone hlp me out?? :confused:

had the same problem, honestly i feel it would be easier to just remove the clip in the front of the shifter and take the whole shifter right off. its not hard. and i think you need to do this anyways if it needs to be replaced. correct me if im wrong master486

You can definitely replace button without removing Shifter handle - & not a bad idea to pop the button out prior to sliding off Shifter handle should you choose too - There are instances of the fine wires from Strip chafing & shorting in Shifter - The Copper strips the Button mates to are darn flimsy & the assembly VERY peculiar about all being in place for it to work properly or you'll have it apart several times - Have a fuse handy too...
