Spent most of today dealing with the pass side O2 sensor. Crushed the pinky between a 7/8ths wrench and the cat, only to find out the doof at napa sold me the drivers side length sensor, even after I said I needed the passenger side. Autozone nor Pep Boys have the longer sensor. Gonna have to spend tomorrow at Ford or NAPA trying to find this longer one.

Im not gonna settle for that stupid universal sensor, and auto parts people who say the problem is its because its a ford piss me off as well.

that's nonsense if they say it's because it's a ford. Although, we do not have a longer wired sensor for the v6 either, and in all the v6's I've worked on I've never seen a longer passenger wire.

This is sure longer than the Bosch replacement.

thats what i pulled off, and after about 45 minutes at NAPA playing the what the hell kind of part is this game. The closest one we found was from an Escort. Not terribly thrilled about it, but its doing ok now.

wow that wire is extremely long. I never knew they had them that long, must be a 96-97 thing.

I had that exact same problem when i needed to replace mine. Even the dealer did not have it in stock, to order from dealer was $160.00 (rape) So i order one from [email protected] sensor.com, and wired it to the other wiring from the old one to make it long enought. Then when my headgasket blew (unrelated) and a 97 engine put in, i ordered sensors from rockauto and they fit perfect without any wire work.

I may just have to look one up at work tomorrow for a 97 3.8 and see what the length is, because I know pre-96's are shorter. My wiring harness that the o2 hooks to comes down to the back of the block right beside the header.

The one on the driver side is what your describing, that one connects right by the header. The passenger side one connects to a harness thats right behind the accessory belt. I really think my 97 must of been one of the later ones since theres so many oddities to it.

I was actually describing my passenger side o2 wiring. Actually, both of my o2 wiring harnesses come down behind the block.
