So I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong, Ive been through 5 speedometers and not a single one of them has a working odometer. we've gotten quite good at setting the replacement odometer to the actual mileage on the car, but then we install it and it does not work. All the speedos work fine, but not one of the odo's is working. Anyone have any suggestions? Is there some tamper proof setup we missed? Its getting quite frustrating, and expensive!

Have you tried using any of them before setting the mileage? While it is common for the odometer to stop working, it isn't likely 5 for 5 (well, maybe 6 for 6 if that is why you replaced the original one).

I have found that a lot of the speedo units I have pulled from the junkyard have stripped gears on the odometer. Instead of doing all that work for nothing, just get a set of gears and fix it. Check out odometergears.com. I think they can fix you up. As I recall there was a member here doing the gears, but I can't remember who it was.
