I think you've posted on here about your gas milage before. I have virtually the same car as you, 97 4.6 stock engine. I put 3.73 gears in and removed the air silencer, that's it. I monitor and record all my records and I average about 23mpg and when I cruise anywhere on a roadtrip, I average anywhere from 28-30mpg. And I'm about 210km (145 miles) on that engine.
There has to be something up with your car to be only getting that kind of milage.

I can't find any reason for the mileage difference; the two cars have been consistent except for problems, which were almost always shown in the mileage first.
I have replaced all the o2 sensors on both cars over time, if the rear ones short they somehow cause problems with the front ones.
I change plugs and wires every two years; transmission fluid as well.
I drive 48 miles one way, five days a week, more if I drive to lunch. Average ~500/wk

Comments: Since adding the stock comp and putting the 2.73's in the car....WOW..all I can do is average the mileage per tank(Odometer STILL isn't working) based on round trips to work....67 mile round trip, average 5 round trips per week and misc driving after work. I would guess that I am averaging about 400-425 miles per tank of gas. That's about 25 mpg average.....city and freeway

Comments: i have never tried to figure out my mpg but i only drive 12 miles a day and i usually get about 260 miles to a tank driving in the city and about 350 on the highway.
Who knows...my stupid odometer is dead. When I first got the car, I was averaging 21mpg around town (with the horrible oxygenated Phoenix gas), with a best tank of 28mpg (on better flagstaff gas - all hwy).
