i got off work and i started my cougar up and started to drive and i soon smelled gas
real bad, i thot it was another car, but when i get home the smell was still there so im thinking its a cloged fuel filter so go to pasanger side to see a huge puttle of gas, so im like big deal i'l go to ford and get a fuel filter, so i did and changed it, i start it up and i smell gas again i look and theres another puttle i get down and look closer and its leaking from some were in the back neer the rear tire theres like 3 lines and all of them are wet with gas, so should i go to a dealer to have it fixed or try it myself?
i have never played with fuel lines before so i don't know how hard of a job it would be. has any one got any tips or suggestions on how to find this leak? or should i just go to a pro.?

I had the same thing happen to me. I got stranded in Southern Illinios at 2am. I had a Ford Dealer fix it. I don't know if you could do it or not. I know they took the exhaust out, dropped the gas tank and it took them a few hours if that helps you make a decision.

I hate to recommend this, but I think you should take it to a dealership. The fuels systems sometimes have those hard plastic lines on them and can be a pain to repair or replace.

And the fuel system is a pretty important (i.e. dangerous) system that needs to be in top notch condition or very bad things can happen.

I don't know your mileage, but while they have the tank out, you might want to consider a new pump and in tank filter.

the leak in the rear sounds like the fuel lines rubbed and wore out, just like my 95 did... they run about $50 for the line from the tank to the filter. You can do it, but if you're not comfortable have a mechanic do it for you.

The dealer cost I paid was about 450.00. They charged me 80 or so for the line and the rest was labor. They also added extra because the part was in another town and they had to go meet someone halfway. I know I paid a lot but they got me out of there the same day.

i just sent it to the dealer they told me that the way it looks it might cost around $60
+ laber so im exspecting to pay about $300. at least i know there going to do it right.

If you are planning to run nitrous, a 255lph fuel pump is recommended, but you can't get them through ford, the biggest ford sells is a 170lph.

Thats probably the part that busted on mine. The hard plastic lines rub against the chassis up around the top of the gas tank. I replaced mine, wasn't hard to do, just time consuming and involved dropping the gas tank and exhaust (surprise surprise). The part they'll sell you is from the fuel pump to the tank and its held in by rivets. If you get under the pass. side, you'll see the 3 lines.

If you do it yourself, expect to spend about a day, and like stated, might as well take the chance to switch out the fuel pump and put in a new fuel filter.

i have broken the fuel line which in between the fuel rail on my 94 4.6 any those lines are hard plastice one with clear lines inside and insulator outside.
can i just go to autozone buy those black color hose and put it on or i have to go to dealer or junkyard to find the whole rail assembly?

I've never had any trouble using reinforced rubber fuel hose on the pressure side of EFI systems on the engine. Just make sure its rated for the pressure in your system, usually 45 psi max. If you want some thermal insulation, just slip another piece of loose-fitting hose over it.

how big of a hurry are you in?? I'm off next week (all week) but I have to put together a SC cougar :D and I'd love to have an excuse to drive her out ....a field test if you will, yea thats it.

just want to make sure the fuel will not eaten away the rubber hose away.
i will definitely get a bigger hose to slide over it for thermal insulation.
the hose are rated at about 250 psi if i'm not wrong.

:) i already took the car in and yesterday i got it out it was a fuel line and with labor it cost me $207. not bad when your exspecting 300-400 dollers :)

now you wanna here a funny story? when i got the car it had no gas (about a gallon) so i go to swifty on norwood ave. (they pump it for you) the guy pumping stops and say's what the [email protected]% im like oh ****, i look and the thing you put the gas nozzle into is not hooked up to the tank!, the gas just fell on the ground! so i take it back and in 15 minuts it's fixed, so no biggy.

i guess now its o.k.
