When I swapped wires and plugs today in the '97 4.6, there was oil on the threads of 3 of them. They were the front 3 plugs on the driver's side.

Any idea what may have caused this?
Is it a problem?

Thanks!

bad valve seals or bad headgasket maybe most likely?

this is kinda funny. I just came on here to ask the same question!

I however have oil only on the pass side and its really bad on the #4 cylinder. Like causing a CEL for a missfire on that cylinder. How can this be fixed????

I don't know, I'm stumped.

I would understand bad valve seals leaking oil into the combustion chamber, but there was no oil on the electrodes at all, ONLY on the thread part. Even my socket came out oily. Is it possible oil was spilled in there at one time and it just sat?

And I thought a bad head gasket would be more of a coolant than an oil issue.

go to the machanic and ask them to do a compression test because you have oil on your plugs. If it is bad compression they will most likly tell you that your some of your piston rings shot... but i woulndt really worry about this... its not a mojor bad thing. anyways how many miles are on it

I just put new plugs in on Friday and it didn't do anything to correct the problem. I'm gonna throw some new wires on there tomorrow and see what that does.
