OK, 97 4.6L... It has a hissing noise after you turn the engine off (probly is hissing but can't hear it over the exhaust) when you start the car up (sometimes it hard to start) and when it starts, it will go to 1200 rpm, then it will go to 500 rpm then 900 then 500 again then start to idle right at about 850 - 900rpm. It also shakes slightly and other than the shake it has a shimmy, kind of like a missfire. I have new plugs, motor mounts, wires, cleaned MAF, new Fuel filter, and air filter. WHat can cause this?? I HATE THIS, someone please help... Is there any way I can take it somewhere to see if they can diagnose this? ANYTHING that can help?? Thanks!!

i'm thinkin maybe your idle air control valve is shot?.....pull that baby off, clean it w/ mineral spirits and if it gets better look into replacing it.

If it is hissing look for a vacuum leak that is bleeding down after you shut off

Look at your vacuum lines under the cowl area. They get brittle and can break easily if bumped. Check the lines coming out of the throttle body too, they can fall off.

I cleaned the IAC also. Could it be the EGR?
