Is it necessary to change the accessory bracket on a 4.2 to a 3.8 style bracket. also would cutting a hole in the factory hood weaken it? I plan to temporarily to cut a hole n the hood to allow the truck intake to work on the car then add a cowl hood until i can afford to by a new one. Also how would the car run with the egr deleted and no tune?

i would think that you reuse your own brackets. cutting a hole should not weaken the hood. no egr and no tune, it would most likely run like crap. do a search.

3.8L and the 4.2L are the same block. Big difference is the crank. I'm not sure if the pistons are different or not. I'll hae to check that out next time I'm at work at Advance.

Platnium, all your accesories are the same between the 4.2 and the 3.8.

Have you thought of using 2000 Mustang upper and lower intakes gasket matched to each other and to the heads? It should fit under the stock hood without cutting it.

ive thought about it but i dont want to have to change to DIS so thats why i wanted the truck intake plus i am basing my setup similar to pj's. plus ive heard that the mustang intake kinda restricts the 4.2 . im not sure about that but i read about it on v6power.net. also so basically all i have to do is take my accesories of my 3.8 and put them on the 4.2 .

you won't need a tune for just removing the EGR valve, you WILL need it for the added displacement and larger injectors though.

If you eliminate the EGR you can go with the Mustang upper intake and the distributor.

How is that possible. i dont think the egr would have an effect on the position of the upper intake. except maybe it would get get in the way.what if i tried to use a spacer or the intake

The distributor will be in the way of the EGR valve if you go with the Mustang upper, thats why racecougar went DIS.

I got one small question. Are the 4.2 pistons shorter than 3.8 pistons, or are they the same piston?

I'm winnowing the wheat from the chaff for my project.

Or you could keep the egr and distributor and go with the Mustang intake like I did.

Thats the easy part, pulls the Camsensor and drive unit out and slide your old distributor in.

thanks rancherlee. so i am assuming that this would be the same on the 4.2 v6 from a F-150

Is the EGR neccessary to pass emissions.

And how do get vacuum to the imrcs.
