Well yesterday my car started on fire. Looks like I'm going to need a new fuse box and some wiring. I'm not sure what happened, I'm guessing that there was some corrosion melted and started the box on fire, or maybe that 175amp fuse shorted. Well either way I was lucky enough to put it out in a timely manner and the car still runs and drives, its not charging because that 175amp fuse is busted. New fuse box is in the junkyard and I am going to get it tomorrow. Well just wanted to inform, make sure your connections are clean!!

Wow man, glad you were able to get it out quickly!

My dad had an engine fire on his '76 Trans Am about 15 years ago. As I recall one of the threaded connections for the fuel line to the carburetor was leaking fuel and it ignited somehow as he was tweaking with it on a Sunday afternoon. My older brother was watering the lawn at the time so he was able to get a hose onto the engine fast and got the fire out before the fire department showed up. But it toasted the hood and entire top end of the engine; I recall he spent the entire remainder of summer, fall, winter and spring rebuilding the engine and repainting the hood from scratch. Not fun!!

Man that sucks. I hope your harness damage isnt too bad. I just replaced the engine harness and the LH underhood harness on a 97 cougar, my fire originated from the positive post of the battery (incorrect battery) shorting out on the hood. Good luck man. I hope its simple to fix!

i would NOT drive the car with that sort of damage. you are asking for trouble! it is not safe for you, your passengers and other drivers on the road.
