Hey guys,

As I've mentioned, I'm looking to do some refurbishing with my Bird. After I address the mechanical issues, I will probably be dressing it up a tad with the new exhaust and such.

One thing I am considering is putting the black GTS headlight covers on her. I used to have them many years ago, but after the second set got cracked up in a parking lot (blasted stray shopping carts) I took them off and never replaced them. I've always loved the way they looked though and I think the black covers on my Silver Bird looks especially nice.

Being much more heavily into cars and performance over the last couple years has made me pretty "rice-conscious", if you will. Now I worry that just about any visual thing I do to a car could be considered rice. So I wanted to get your opinions on what you thought about GTS covers, and whether or not just putting covers on the headlights would in your minds be considered "rice".

The other thing I was wondering is this -- The reduction in light at night with the covers on was never an issue for me, it always seemed that there was plenty even with the covers on. But to offset any light reduction, if I DO put covers back on, would buying HIDs do the job?

Thanks!

HID's are out of the question, unless you're talking about some seperate driving or fog lights. As far as GTS light covers go, I have them and in no way do I consider my car as being "rice". Do what you want to your car, you're the one that has to live with it. Like it, and don't care what other people think. As far as the light issue, I have silverstar bulbs and their hype is true...they're worth it. Best case scenario: I would get the covers, as well as some fog lights and call it good. Hope this helps...

Thanks for the reply.

I guess what I mean is high-intensity bulbs for my stock headlights. Those silverstar bulbs you have, are they a direct swap for the stock bulbs?

And yeah, I love the way it looks with the covers. I think I've just made myself paranoid that any visual mod can be considered rice. I'm sure I will end up buying some new ones one the weather gets warmer.

I used GTS headlight covers on my T-Bird for years, and here's my two cents.

1. They prevent the sunlight from yellowing out the headlamps.

2. Nighttime use is a no-no, especially when it is rainy or foggy, as they do not allow enought light through to work safely.

3. If you are involved in an accident at night, the headlight covers will add to your liability.

The GTS covers look nice on these cars. You do have to remove them at night. They are held on with velco strips, so they are easy to remove and put back on. Silver Star bulbs are designed like factory units, make sure you have the correct bulb number for your car.

the '96-'97 may be different than the '94-'95. Mine came with velcro, and with out it, there is nothing to hold it to the top of the lense. It's even pre mounted on the cover for you. My 2000 mustang clipped on the way you say, But definately not my T'bird.

yeah, headlight covers are sweet! definately not rice, don't be so paranoid lol, rice is stickers for crap not on the car and 6 inch exhaust tips with fart cannons, and 10 foot tall wings, lol, headlight covers are a real nice addition to the exterior, i have some of the carbonfiber look, i actually looks pretty good on my silver bird, cool thing about the cf ones is that they let out a little more light at night, you can hardly tell they are there visually when i have them on, but the decrease in light output is noticeable,

i hardly ever take them off unless i'm driving down the highway, i do have the hella ff75's on as driving lights so they help out tremendously, i even got pulled over the other night and had the covers on and the nice officer didn't even say anything about them being on even though they are considered illegal for night use, but they really don't enforce it much, lol, later'z.....:D

Yeah I had em on my Cougar for a long time. I was on my second set. Be careful when installing them using the pressure clip because if the covers have been sitting in the cold for a long time, they will resist more and possibly break the pressure clip. Happened to me TWICE.
