My sister just got an '03 Mach 1 Mustang, and was told that in order to get another key, the dealer must program it. Is this the case, or is it like my fiancee's '01 where you just need two keys to add a new one?

It's the same as the other Ford PATS ... if you have 2 original keys, you can program a new 3rd key yourself. It's only when you have 1 or none of the original keys, that it has to be taken to a dealer for them to access the security system.

cheers,

I believe that starting in 2001 the system was changed to SPATS instead of PATS. With PATS you only needed one key to program the second. With SPATS you need two keys to program a third.

If you need the work done, call around to your local dealerships. It will be cheaper than a locksmith and probably more convenient.

Unfortunately this is the voice of experience. Expect to pay between $75 and $175 depending on who does it.
