This is kind of a repost from the michigan chapter forum however..
Anyone interested doing the PI cam swap in a 96/7 this may be useful.
Im just going to tell some tips, things people forgot to tell me, and who knows.
Well today i completed my pi cam swap. I think i was the first guniea pig to try out the Anderson Ford Motorsport cam install tool. It is basically a timing chain wedge so you do not have to pull the timing cover. (this only works if you have romeo PI cams to install, windsors have pressed on sprockets and the timing cover has to be removed anyways) , in actuallity once everything was out of the way, each side of the cam swap only took about an hour to do. and that was taking my sweet old time, making sure nothing moved or i didnt mess anything up. The hardest part honestly is just removing the valve covers, you need a 1/4 inch drive sockets, extentions, and universal joint for about 6 of the bolts total to get anywhere near taking them out. another thing that nobody mentioned to me till after i had the cams in, was that the bolts for the cam to sprokets are different sizes between NPI and PI cams, i had to order those from the dealership for 7 bucks for a pair of bolts and another 7 bucks for the pair of washers.
If you come across a good set of pi cams this can all be done very inexpensively.
My total cost-
Pi cams 48 shipped
New bolts and washers-15
valve cover gaskets-54
and thats basically all i used. (if you want to add on the cost of the too) it would be an additional 30 bucks.
so total im looking at 150 bucks, a couple hours, few beers, and its all taken care of.
If anyone would be interested in getting that tool from me, just pm me and we can arrange something, such as you paying what i paid for it shipped.
if there is anymore questions, let me know!
