So would a 2002 PI motor out of a Mustang GT bolt to my '94 tranny? or would I need to swap tranny as well. Would a 1999 4R70W auto tranny also out of a mustang swap right into the Bird (V8 '94 LX). Other than the wiring harness and ECU what else would I need?

Thanx for the link. I read the entire thread. So the motor out of the 02 stang would be a direct bolt up to the tranny, but would require some alteration to the motor mounts? If you don't mind me asking how much was the explorer engine? If I had the if I had the harness and ECU I wouldn't really need a chip would I? I apologize for my stupidity when it comes to mechanical stuff, I am learning though... If someone doesn't mind answering a really stupid question, what would be the benefit of swapping to the 02 motor other than the lower mileage newer motor...

Mine was $1000 but they seem to run around $1200. The main benefit is the newer motors have PI heads which means another 40 HP over what you currently have.

Thanx for the assistance timb. So is there any reason to not go with the mustang motor? Also does anyone know if I would need a chip with the ecu and harness from the stang? I appreciate all the help I can get.

Not anymore. I've seen timb's car. It looks like a good job. I just can't wait to get a ride in it. Also timb, did you ever think of a price for the pulleys?

The main advantage of the explorer motor over the mustang motor is that the '02 explorer motor has an aluminum block. This is only true of the '02 year motor.

Both motors have the PI heads and cams.

Im looking into getting one. May I ask where you got one for 900? All I could get it down to is 1095 shipped.

I know this is probably a stupid question, what is the advantage of having the aluminum block?

What do you mean stronger? Is it bolted to the frame stronger, will it be able to handle more power like a sc, etc... I apologize for all the stupid questions.

Yes the block can handle more power without deforming. Note that the stock pistons or rods will not though. In general they are also cheaper than mustang motors

Sounds like a real good price. The 96 - 97 parts you need are tbird not mustang. Yes everything bolts right up you will use the flexplate off your tbird motor and the motor mounts and it will bolt to the trans without any issues
