Is it absolutly necessary to run premium (93/94 octane) if you swap PI heads on a stock block?

I know the compresssion goes up to 10.4:1. My car is a daily driver and with the way gas prices are I haven't been in a rush to put my heads on.

If / when I get a tune can they make me a 87 octane tune that won't ping?

I'm guessing that since I live in Michigan I could use a lower octane during the colder months and not get any ping, and just use higher octane during the warmer months.:confused:

it is possible.. just have to retard the timing something fierce

you need to decide what you want.. a gas miser, or something with more performance, unfortunately the two rarely go hand in hand
