Hello All.

If I buy a 96/97 4.6 with about 90k miles and the tranny feels good...

If I then spend (I'm guessing) $500 to have my mechanic install the jmod and tranny cooler....

If I limit mods to only 30+ Fwhp...

If I don't floor it from a stop or pull boats every chance I get...

Could I safely assume the tranny will last 300k miles?

Thanks!

A stock 96/97 300k non fleet miles? I wouldn't count in it. Wear items alone even if babied and pampered and treated right won't go that long.

Can you count on it? No. Is it possible? Yes. I have a 94 crown vic that has 275K miles and the original trans, and it has no issues yet. If you do all highway driving, the trans would last a lot longer than around town. Besides, if the car only has 90K on it now, why are you worried about making it to 300K? To get to 300K, you have more miles to go than most cars will last total, so I say buy the car, have the J-mod done, and keep up on the maintenance on the whole car, and fix what breaks until the car isn't worth fixing anymore. Don't worry about a problem that doesn't exist, isn't likely to come about in the next few years, and isn't terribly expensive to fix when it eventually does come up.
