well i had a unfortunate event this weekend, my 4.3L cougar took a crap on me. I knew that i had to small of pushrods on it, but i threw a lifter! I was told by several other splitporters and SSM that using stock lifters and pushrods was not going to be a problem. well i got everything off and inspected the lifters and one lifter seems to be missing the top cap, now im hoping that it went into the pan

I was curious to find out what you other splitporters are running for lifters and pushrods, and if possible where you got them at. I bought a pushrod length checker to measure for the correct length, but if there is anything else that i can prevent id like to take care of it while the lower manifold is off..

So here's my Questions

1) splitporters, what are you using for lifters and pushrods, if aftermarket where did you purchase

2) While i have the lower manifold off is there any other preventive maint that i can do to avoid another lifter problem.

but do you have aftermarket rockers!!!!! i have the 1.73's, and everything else was stock..

Nope, the rockers are stock. I was just answering your question:

1) splitporters, what are you using for lifters and pushrods, if aftermarket where did you purchase

its the cam that would be a problem,, especially if it has been re-ground.. the larger the cam specs (duration and seperation) will mean the stock cam that was used to make it will have to be ground down even further then one with smaller specs. this makes the base circle of the cam smaller then stock thus the need for longer pushrods.

However,, it would not cause the lifter or top of it to come off??? that to me sounds like the valve contacted the piston and thus causing the lifter to break..

I would remove the pushrods and roll them on glass or a counter top to see if they are straight.

Edit: I ran a regound cam 207/215 and it needed longer pushrods, but I ran it with stockers and they made some noise that about it (bad geometry)

I went back to a stock 96-98 Mustang/Tbird cam in my 4.2L and it was just perfect for a heavier tbird with a 4.2!! tons of torque and smoother idle.. its a more aggressive cam then the spitport cams.

i have the 1.73 rollerrockers on mine and the stock rods are too short. does any one else have these???? what size pushrods you got

i have a whole set of 4.2 pushrods if you need them. I also have a 4.2 cam but I doubt you want that.
