Q: If the goal is to make a drag weapon (as opposed to a daily driver), how built up is your roll cage. At the ETs you guys are running, do you already have a full cage yet?
If so, is the cage tied to your front/rear suspension points?

Here's an example of a rollcage that's almost a "car within a car". I especially like the plates that tie the shell whenever it comes close to the roll cage structure.

I have a roll bar, and my points 7 and 8 are tied into my home made SFC's.

other than that, my car is one body now....all the unibody seams were welded.

A bar is all you need till 9.9's. Then a cage is required!

Most all of the legal drag racing cars on here presently use bars. Once into that 9 second zone then a cage is a must legally.

did you use mild steel or chromoly?

that's a lot of work to weld all the seams. If I was stripping my whole car, I'd likely do the same. But I'm not, lol.

MS.

I did not have the funds for a tig, and already had 2 migs.

Have you decided to remove any sound deadening?

oh, and I welded the bottom of the car too!

What is the difference between a "Bar" and a "Cage"?

For the "Bar" the pipe is following the inside driver B-post, roof and then passenger B-post? And obviously the cage is what Nick has?

Thanks,

Wow that's a lot of bar. You have to have a roll bar for times 11.50 and under correct?

I can't see having a roll bar in my car. I like the interior the way it is. I'll have to keep it slow, but on the other hand if I had a rockin drag car I'd cage it out like a jail cell. :D Thanks for the 101!

I know its being a smart arse but...

At my local track the only requirement is a helmet, but then again its the only wildcat track left--no NHRA.

A bar isn't too bad as long as you don't need to get in back. And it stiffened the car up alot on mine. Riding with the firm ride off now is like riding with the firm ride on before the bar.

My cage is required.

I attached it to a 2x3 I ran from front to back.

I expect it is in your line of motorsports. Most cars on here do not need nor do they require a cage. Thats all I was saying. Some refer to a bar as a cage, but they are not the same.

There may be some soon entering that zone soon though. Regardless bar or cage, it's all for the protection of the driver and safety should be a priority.
