Hey Guys,

This is pertaining to my transmission swap.

Will a 2003 Mustang GT Transmission work in my Thunderbird (95 V8)?

Thanks,

Yes, IIRC. With some re-pinning of the harness and the electronics from your 95 trans. (MLPS, etc..)

Eric, just beware that some of the '03 4R70W's do not have teeth on the output shaft to drive the VSS.

Wow,

This is great news, I can't wait for my paycheck to come in because I will be buying a new transmission!

So what do you guys think, can this be done in one night? Clean up at the base is around 5:00 so everything has to be in by then, I don't think they'll let you store something over night.

Thanks,

With the right tools, equipment and preparation it can be done in one evening. If you are working on the ground with hand tools it will be a long night.

Well,

It's on base with rented tools (compressed air, etc).

Got any favors you can call in? This may be a lot easier with some help to do it in one night.

Well,

I know pete's helping me out and I'm sure my friend luke will too (he doesn't know too much about cars but is good to have around for a worker).

Other than that, I've done a lot of websites but not for car people...:S

It can be done. You can rebuild it. You have the technology, lol.....

Sounds like you have enough hands to do it. Now all you need is a lift.

Well,

That's what we are going on base for. I think instead of trying to tow it around town and what not I may just take the plunge and get a guy to pick up the car and bring it on base for like $50.

Sweetness. You should be good to go then I would think. As long as you get the electronics right, it should be no sweat. Good luck.

Well,

Thank god for JL because he's going to j-mod it and then I will go pick it up from his house and the next day bring the car on base and bring the tranny.

I'm not too bad with soldering if I don't say so my self, except I think Pete needs to do the sensors and stuff, it's not a $5 toy, it's a $600 piece of machinery that could make or break my car.

Thanks,

Trust me, I feel your pain on the cost. My trans. cost me around that, and by the time everything is said and installed, will be around $1,400. But, if all goes well, I should have a decent trans. that will last, even if beat on a bit (hopefully). Have faith in yourself and your abilities. I have the same fear on this type of "make-or-break" stuff. I just say "self, this is going to work the first time, and there is no reason why it won't, you have the mad skillz yo". So far, never let myself down, lol.

:D

Well,

JustinH's transmission fell through so I need to find another transmission.

1400? What kind of stuff did you buy?

Hmmm. lets see:

01 Grand Marquis trans.- $560
Having Alan weld the snapring to my OWMD- $12
Morris 2800 stall TC and Mark VIII flexplate to match- $275
Mark VIII deep pan w/ drainplug- $25
New B&M 28K race cooler- $60
Aeroquip fittings to install cooler and 6 feet of -6AN braided stainless line- $150
18 quarts of Mercon V- $80
Front pump seal, 2 valve body gaskets, tailshaft seal-$40
Trans. temp. guage & sensor- $50
Box of Band-Aid's- $5
New trans. mount- $30

That should be around $1,287 as of right now, and it's still sitting halfway apart on my workbench, lol. I'm sure something else will come up. Beer, brackets for mounting cooler, new misc. bolts, etc...

Maybe I will be able to keep it below the $1,400 mark, only time will tell.....

Man, this trans. better be kick a** when I get it done, lol.

Well,

So far I'm looking at the following;

1) 2001 Crown Victoria Transmission - $310.00
2) Transmission Mount - $20.00
3) Fluid & Filter - $50.00
4) Rebuild Kit - $70.00
5) Marauder TC - $150.00
6) B&M Hi-Tek 24K GWV Transmission Cooler - $60.00 - Done
7) Extra Hose - $10.00
8) Shop Fee's - $50.00
9) Tow Rope - $25.00
10) Speedo Gear - $10.00
11) Flex Plate & Bolts - $40.00

So, I'm looking at around $795.00 right now, give or take a hundred for miscellaneous stuff like gas and what not.

Does that look about right? Wow, and I thought this would fit into my $500.00 budget! *Chuckles*

Thanks,
