I need to change out the drivers side bushing on rack & pinion unit (on my 96 TBird). Is this a very difficult job? Seems like the bushing is "squished" / worn out & the bolt seems to be bottomed out as I can't tighten it any further. Can it be changed without pulling out the whole unit, power steering lines etc? Or should I go for the whole rack unit? I have 130 K miles on my bird, how long does the stock unit usually go before it wears out (ie inner tierod ends, leaks etc )?

I think you would have to remove the whole unit. It's been a while since I had mine out, but I don't think you could just unbolt it and move it enough to put a new bushing in. I am pretty sure the lines would have to be disconnected to move it enough. Be careful disconnecting the lines, depending on how rusty they are, they could break.
My rack went at 95k, so did my p/s line.
