I'm unsure about the hose/belt thing since I'm not familiar with the 3.8L engine, but regarding the engine temperature: is most of the driving you do stop-and-go? That'd contribute to a higher temperature reading. If the temperature's holding steady, it should be ok. A quick repair/fix would be to install a replacement thermostat, and see if that lowers the reading any.

How's the coolant level? If it's low, that may be a cause of the higher temperature reading. Have you observed any coolant leaks anywhere? Does the engine fan work? A non-working fan could cause a higher temperature reading.

Also, make sure the cooling system vent plug isn't damaged.

I'd suggest checking these things first, and see what you find. There are other causes, but these don't take much to check.
