Im thinking about picking up a 95 Lincoln mark 8 as a dd to replace my 94 sc.

I get 16 to 17 at most with the sc because its got some issues.

How does a mark 8 do on gas?

It really depends how you drive it. Running straight highway I got 25mpg, but on average I got about 18mpg mixed highway and around town.

thanks for the info. most of my commute to base is 55 mph highway. i figure i could keep it at 20mpg.

Running 55 that shouldn't be a problem. The 25mpg I got was running about 80mph.

I got a high of 30.8 (all freeway, 60-70 MPH) once, but usually saw 26-27 on the freeway. City was closer to 21.

when I first got mine it was averaging 21mpg. I averaged 19.5mpg for the longest time. When the rubber o-ring between my master and booster blew apart I couldn't average over 18mpg, even if I reset it while cruising on the highway.

I just drove from New Hampshire to Nova Scotia and back fully loaded(overloaded really) Talking trunk full, roof racks on with bicycles on the sides, and luggage in the middle, averaged 17.5 mpg, most of the driving was on the highway at 75mph.

Basically I agree with the numbers MadMikeyL Provided. I just felt I needed to post my experience.

Lol I would like it better without the weird trunk bubble. They don't look bad to me. I really like the look of them with the cobra style bumper also.

lol, I'm in a love hate relationship with mine, The looks have really grown on me over the time that I've owned it. Right now it's broken and full of rainwater, so I'm a little unhappy with it.

Keep in mind mine is a base with all the chrome, and I hate chrome. I would kill for one of those cross gen cars.

back on the original topic. my 97 is EPA rated for 16 City 24 Highway for an average of 19mpg.

I know some people are averaging better than this depending on driving habits and overall condition of the car. BUT you shouldn't buy the car expecting to stay consistently above those numbers.

And just for the record I managed to average 19mpg with 4.10 gears in the rear.

Im goin to take a look at it on sunday. I can get my hands on it for under $1, 000. 130, 000 miles. Air suspension is already swapped out. Its black on black. Looks clean in the pics, pics hide a lot of details.

Much better choice! You can wash it, clay bar it, rinse, hit it with a Porter-Cable or similar buffer with your choice of cutting liquids (I use Meguiar's and Adam's Polishes products), end with a glaze and you'll have a brand-new shine.

i never looked in the 94 or 95 lincoln mark8 tune specifically but i have tuned a few 98s those tunes are setup to richen the fuel mix to cause a 'smoother' ride at higher speeds, its not optimal by any means

don't know if the 94-95 does that but i wouldn't be surprised

Mpg is not all that im worried about. I just something in the 20 to 25 mpg range.

I want something I can feel comfortable in and safe for my kids to ride in.

I don't know what year you're looking at or if the earlier Mark VIII has this feature but my 1997 Has the autoglide seats, That is the best feature ever for kids in a coupe. I haven't found an easier vehicle to get my son in and out of.

Auto glide is nice until it is the 34,800th time in has gone forward and back, and decides to stay forward. I am fighting both sides forward and back motion in my 97 Mark VIII. You can turn off the drivers side glide, but not the passenger side.

The Mark VIII compared to my 97 Cougar has way less rear leg room.

That's only cause the MarkVIII seats go further back on the track. The floor pan has the same measurements on both cars.
