Well i'm asking this question here instead of a mustang site because there are so many people on those sites with no experience or knowledge who talk out of their ***, with that said this questions is primarily directed towards darrin or dirtydog or anyone else that has experience with lsp 8.8

so what gear oil guys?

Motorcraft 75w140...2.5 qts... 2 bottles of motorcraft friction modifier.

is this regardless of power/slicks that are going to be used in conjunction?

incase it's not...8.8 lsp auto(you probably knew this first part already) on slicks with more than 400 tq on 3.73's ?

Owners manual says what to use. I put synthetic gear lube in mine. Won't feel a difference, but hey...I have synthetic gear lube in it. Woo Hoo!

Ditto here...I racked my brain and remembered that I added 1.5 qts (not synth...dino) + 1 bottle of FM.
So Alan, you think it'd be best if I added another quart of goo and another bottle of friction modifier??? I'm not questioning your knowledge...but what kind of difference would it make from 1.5+1 to 2.5+2???

Ford only suggested one bottle of modifier for years, but chatter in corners was a common problem. Many technicians at the dealers have told me to use 2 bottles and the problems go away, from what I have seen they are right. Immediately after I built my own rear it chattered at low speed turns. When I serviced it I changed to 2 bottles and within 5 miles it went away. As far as mobil 1 fluid and others I don't see harm in it however all I feel comfortable using with fords picky frictions is the motorcraft 75w140 and motorcraft modifier. I truely believe companies like royal purple and others will tell you whatever you want to hear to sell their product. When it comes to open differentials who cares they last forever I just put 80w90 that I buy in 5 gallon buckets into them and service them every 50k or so. I don't think it matters so much as to what you use, just that the unit is full of clean fluid. When I build a traction lock differential I suggest breaking it in with one bottle of modifier and 80w90 fluid. after about 500 miles of non abusive driving change to 2 bottles of modifier and the motorcraft fluid. Thats why I always put drain plugs in the cover however to make that alot easier to do.
