Exactly 1 week and 1 day I had new cats put on my car by Meinke and now I am having problems with the way my car is running. The day after the cats were done my car was idling rough and when I would put it in drive it was jerky and felt like it wanted to stall or couldn't go. The next day it drove fine. The next following days it would do the same thing, never at the same time or with any consistancy. (example: it wasn't just doing it when it was cold or after it was running for awhile...it just came and went without notice)

Now yesterday, I drove my car about 8miles to Advance Auto to pick up a new air filter, (it drove fine to the store) but when I went to back out of the parking spot to leave, the car stalled. I put it in park and started it up again, put it in reverse and it stalled again. I did this about ten times before I went in the store and asked them to test my battery and alt to see if that was the cause. The test results showed both the battery and alt was working fine. The guy who helped me asked me to show him what was happening and I did and he said he never saw anything like that before and just suggested I put it in neutral whenever I stopped just so I could get home. I did that and was able to get home. My car now sounds like sh*t and I feel Meinke f*cked something up because I had no problems like this before and also because the guy(s) who were working on my car were being real jerks and giving my father and I a hard time, which we gave right back after them having my car for almost 10 hours when they originally told me only 2-3hrs and being non-chalent about the whole thing when we called them out on no one working on my car and everyone just BSing.

Has this happened to anyone else before? What do you think is causing this? Do you think it's related to the work I had done or is it just a coinsidence? Do you think I have valid cause to go back to Meinke and have them look over my car again/complain about the problems I'm having? Your help/advice is MUCH appreciated.

Thank you!

First off, did you check for codes? I would be very surprised if the car is running that badly and not throwing a CE light for something. It sounds to me like maybe they left something unplugged or didn't reinstall something correctly. I would definitely take it back there as soon as possible. In fact, I would have taken it back the next day when it was having problems, but the sooner you get back there, the better.

Another thing, I don't know how meineke works with regards to this, but you might want to try to call up another meineke nearby and explain to them what happened and why you don't feel comfortable with the people at the other place, and ask if they would honor any kind of warranty or whatever. It depends how the franchise is set up, but they probably would be willing to look at it for you and let you know what the other people screwed up.

Did they do any welding on the car while the battery was hooked up? If they did it could have messed the computer up.

yea my check engine light is on...it was still on the day I drove it home and I did think to myself...'I wonder if they reset it or not?'. Yea, I think I'm going to take it to my local Meinke instead of the one who did the work to it. I'm hoping it's nothing expensive and I'm so mad that I even have to lose a day of work to do this. HOPEFULLY, it's just a weird coinsidence, because I would really hate to think they would purposely mess with someone's car...I mean, I had my baby nephew in the car with me when it kept stalling. Thank God it was in the parking lot and not in the middle of an intersection or something! Thanks for all your suggestions. :)

So I take my car to the Meineke in Berlin to have them look over the job the Bordentown Meineke did and they tell me that it's 110% done wrong!! They've never seen anything like this before! So they tell me they called up Bordentown and talked to them and they said to bring it back and they'll fix it. I told the guy HELL NO if they couldn't do it the first time than there's no way I'm taking the chance of them touching my car again. The guy said he didn't blame me and that my other options were to get Corporate Meineke involved and/or dispute the charges with my credit card company, otherwise I'm going to have to pay twice. The guy in the Berlin one was really good with me and I said just to fix their mistakes and I'll fight it out with my bank and the Bordentown Meineke. He said no problem and he'll also give me a written statement as to what was wrong with the job Bordentown did so I can present that to my bank and Corporate.

CAN YOU F*CKING BELIEVE THAT??!!!?!! How sick in the head can you be to f*ck with someone's car?! I know there are times when people get under your skin and you may think about doing certain things to 'get back' at them but messing with something that each and everyone of us put our lives and trust in, is playing with fire.

Like I said, I had my 4 month old nephew in the car with me, what if what they did/didn't do caused us to get in an accident? I'm not even as concerned about the money end of future repairs or anything like that just the fact that they were willing to risk people's lives b/c they felt like doing a shoty job and 'sticking' it to me. You better believe I'm contacting the Better Business Bureau!

If you paid with a credit card, then you should be covered. Call them up immediately and explain the situation to them and say that you want to reverse the charges for the meineke in bordentown. Remember that as far as the credit card company is concerned, you are their customer, not meineke, so as long as you have a good reason, they will probably reverse the charges to keep you happy. You should also tell all your friends and family never to go to that particular shop again. See if you can cut down their business some, though from the sounds of it they are doing that themselves with bad work. Also when you get the write-up of what they did wrong, post it up here. I'm curious to see what they screwed up.

You may need to submit a written request to reverse the charges on your card. If that is the case make sure to include a copy of the write-up provided by the second shop.

lesson learned: dont go meineke for anything. they charge out the pooper for labor. they gave me an estimate of around $800 for exhaust work. hell no. ill stick with the independent, mom-and-pop muffler shops. hope you get the bugs worked out, teresa.

Ok, I'm waiting on pictures and a statement from the Meineke in Berlin but this is basically what the Bordentown one did......they sawed half of a new cat.conv. and half of my old one and welded the two halfs together and when they didn't weld right they stuck like exhaust or welding gunk in the holes/spots. The did this b/c they're idiots and don't know how to do cats on Tbirds or whatever, b/c of how difficult it is.
I swear, when they showed me I almost freaked....EVEN I (someone with very little car knowledge) COULD TELL THE SH*T WASN'T RIGHT! When I get the pics I'll post them. So anyway, the Berlin one fixed it but now I'm still having problems with my car so I have to take it back and have the injectors cleaned and so on. It's some MAJOR BULLSH*T!

you gotta be kidding me. i have never heard of a shop welding two halved cats together. you better report that to the meineke manager and find out wtf kind of shop they are running. i hate to say it teresa, but i think they were on the mindset that you are a girl and dont know jack about cars, and they could get away with hacking up and welding cats together. of course, that's not the case :) i would go back and demand some kind of refund or reimbursement for their piss poor work. yell if you have to. dont go back there for any kind of work. find a reputable shop from one of these NJ boys. good luck with everything.

I've reported them to the Better Business Bureau, sent an email to Corporate Meineke and was given the phone number for them as well, from the Berlin guys, and I'm contacting my bank to have them reverse the funds. If I don't get my money back soon I'll be contacting our local news stations to put this in their 'consumer alert' segments....don't try to f*ck me over, I'll have your head on a stick! :D

WOW! I have seen some shoddy and rigged things come through the shop, but that tops them all! Even aside from the fact that you don't weld 2 cats together, look at those welds. Those are pathetic. I can't weld worth crap and I can do a better job than that. I would save that cat and turn it in to EPA, or whoever it is that fines shops for cutting cats out of cars. That HAS to qualify as "disabling an emissions control device"! Maybe you can get them fined $10K for F-ing up your car like that. Oh God, Just look at it! How could anyone honestly think they could get away with doing that?

can you believe that meineke is actually fighting with me to give me my money back?? AND my car is still F*CKED UP and i have to take it to another shop...my car is throwing so many wacky codes back the mechanic that's looking at it is at a lost as to how it's even possible. basically my 02 sensors are getting too much fuel and my mass air flow sensors not reading right...it's just a big ol' mess. as soon as i hear back from this mechanic as to what's the root of the problem, i'm pursuing a civil suit against corporate and the bordentown meineke shop...we'll see whose laughing than. all of this b/c the guys wanted to be jerks...un(freakin)believable!
