not the kooks.. i wouldn't even try it with the manifolds on... pretty tight fit
Ive done it with my stock manifolds attached, and once with my Shorty headers still on, i find it easier. Not sure about the kooks though.
i got mine on with kooks on them....don't see why they wouldn't come off
thats what i was thinking but it seems impossible.. how hard is it to remove the headers while heads are still on?
It sounds like a lot of work, but it would probably be easier for you to pull the engine out with the headers attached to tell you the truth. What's the reason you're trying to get the heads off?
to get the heads off now to get em checked for a buyer... i dont have time to get the motor out right this second.. but it seems this willt ake longer anyways
it is better to leave the trans in or take it out with the motor?
Easier to leave the transmission in place.
any pulling the motor with trans... what do i need to know not to **** stuff up

load leveler!!!
Just curious.....but what exactly are you getting for the heads? If they're the stock NPI heads, I can't see you getting any more than about $200 for them. In which case.....it's hardly worth the effort. :zdunno:
I had no problem (well as little problem as possible working on these things) getting the heads out with the manifolds attached, you just need to constantly check that your not hung up on anything. And it will take a bit of nudging to get it out....the drivers side is a lot harder than the passenger
Take everything off, just make sure that you disconnect everything before you pull it. Onces you buy the exploder, it will be easier to attach the tranny outside than inside.. Believe me.

Re read the post. He's not removing the heads with stock manifolds, he needs to removed them with Kooks Mid-length headers, which isn't going to give him the luxury of the same amount of room to work with.
make sure you disconnect the steering shaft! this is the third motor i have in my t-bird. leave the trans in place. you really should get one other person to help you out. go out to menards and spend $200 on a bullet heater. you will thank yourself later that your testicles haven't frozen off.
Ive pulled the motor with trans and shorts attached many a couple times no problem its easier to me...1 trans crossmember bolt VS motor-tranny bolts and the convertor

There PI with Comp cams and comp valve springs..
you might as well pull the whole motor at once and get it over with....
yep. then drop in the whole new setup in one piece.. headers attached.. and be done with it
