What is the best solvent to use to remove undercoating?? I have some clearish looking stuff (It might be a rustproofing stuff-it really doesn't look like undercoating)on the flat surfaces under the hood around the engine compartment--I'd like to remove it w/o taking the paint off--I am trying to use Gunk Bug and tar remover--it works but I think there must be something a little stronger???? Thanks!!

Well, I am going to try some mineral spirits and see what happens!

Mineral spirits is effective as the last step (after the hard work is done). Normally it is a laborious pain in the butt involving a scraper and a torch.

I guess I should clairify that what I was trying to remove is in fact rustproofing and not undercoating from some areas in the engine compartment--I ended up using the mineral spirits and it worked great followed up with Greased Lightening cleaner then my Liquid glass polish, looks good now!! Thanks!
