Went to the local salvage yard and got two of the connectors for a practice run before tackling mine. One was from a 95 bird(like mine) and the other from a 99 crown vic. I've got the disassembly part down pat and moving the pins around no problem. When looking at the P71 diagrams is it better to look at the color of the wires when moving the pins or by the function and matching them with the number order of the newer connector? When I look at the colors of the wires it seems like a couple of the colors don't match. Thanks again guys!

When I pin anything factory, I like to have a connector view printed out that has each pin location's function and wire color for both models. I think there is an extra power wire left over, IIRC when you repin to a 98+. If the colors dont match, you can at least infer which wire to use by function. Usually before starting I write down which moves will have to be made and check them off as I go. Most of the time I will only pull 2 pins at a time to avoid screw ups. :) Hope this helps.

Does help Rob, thanks. The diagram does have the wires numbered as to where each goes for both the 95 and the 98+. im sure I'll make wyself a check-off list as well. I did'nt notice if all the pins have to be moved around or not. I'll have to back and look. Thanks again.
