Hey guys,

My mechanic said I need to replace the whole lower control arm because the bushing wore out in it because I lower my t-bird. They said because how the bushing is machine installed they cannot just replace the bushing. To replace both of them will run me arounf $550. Does this sound right?

Thanks in advance,
Tom

Well it sounds like your shop is just lazy or is inclined to just sell the control arm complete.
There is no problem with replacing any of the bushings on the lower control arm (I do it all the time)
BUT it should be cheaper to have the whole arm complete.
rock auto sells the arms complete:
R/H (including bushings & ball joint) MOOG Part # K80053: $51.79
L/H (including bushings & ball joint) MOOG Part # K80055: $51.79

The price is high for the work they are doing. $450 is excessive for labor.
Tell them that $300 including parts would be more in line for that job.

Yeah, replace the whole arm. I didn't listen and went with bushings. It would've saved a lot of time.

The lower arms are about 75 bucks each (ballpark).

On the lift, my mechanic replaced a lower arm on my car in less than five minutes. Its like two or three bolts.

Find another shop they are boning you hard.

You will need an alilgnment after you replace the lower control arms, so make sure you get that taken care of.
