Well my 3.8 looks like it died tonight (sounded like Cat going but she died and wont crank now). Oil is shot(anit drained yet but the stick is bad), but other fluids fine.

Now my question, for eaze of install do I just get another 96 3.8 or can the 99+ 3.8(SPI) drop in with no mods.

I have a 96 3.8 Cougar (CA emissions), looking at doing this a quick as possible for this is my daily driver.

Sounds like you blew your cats maybe. Was there a bunch of white smoke? You said that "the stick is bad". If your lower end is ok it would probably be faster and cheaper th change the headgaskets.

No smoke and coolant is still clean, it cranks but will not turn over.
