OK, I get that it has to be installed in neutral, but how does one go about aligning it? I'm confused.

There will be two scribed lines that will match up when the mlps is set to neutral (It even says neutral above it; pretty fool proof). You make sure they are aligned and then install the mlps with the tranny selector in neutral.

You will also need to lightly snug it down, very lightly so that you can still move it around. Once you have installed it, go and put the gear selector in "R" and turn the key on, check and make sure that the Reverse lights are on, if they aren't wiggle the MLPS around and check again. It'll make the process easier if someome stands back there while you wiggle it. Once the lights come on, just tighten down the bolts and you're done.

From what I have seen posted here before, they come out of the box already set in the Neutral position.
