First off I have a 94 Cougar, 4.6L. I am having a problem with the reverse light switch. When I shift from park to reverse the backup lights will come on right before the shifter actully locks into reverse, but once the shifter clicks and locks into reverse the lights will go out. First off were is this switch and can it be adjusted. If it needs to be replaced how hard of a job is it. Any help would be welcome

Thanks
Jim

The reverse lights are controlled by the MLPS (Manual Lever Position Sensor) and is located on the driver's side of the tranny. It also controls shifting and starting (park/neu. interlock). Does everything else work ok? Does it start in Park and Neutral and do all the shifts seem normal?
It may just need a slight adjustment.

Switch

I believe that your shift linkage may need adjustment. I've looked through my manual, and this is the only possible fix other than replacing the neutral safety switch.
