Probably not feasible, with all the extra stuff in our engine bays and shock towers etc., but has anyone tried this on an MN12 ala Factory Five Cobra. After looking at my buddy's Cobra it got me curious. BTW, this isn't his engine, his is injected and powerdyne supercharged!:D

maybe if it was a shell of a car, and you didn't care where you were mounting your steering shaft, and you did some kind of crafty sneaky turbos and no sharp bends in the piping, but thats a lot of what ifs.... and a lot of cutting, welding, hammering, custom fab, etc.... long story stort, not on a stock car, probably ever....

If i can bolt up my shorties reversed with a 4.6 which is alot wider than a 5.0 Im sure you can with a little bit of relocation. I did have to cut the flanges off to clear the sub frame.

There is a guy in Dayton Ohio area that has reversed shorties on his 5.0 turbo setup. It's a homebuilt setup. If I can find the pics of the car he sent me, I'll post them

I'm assuming you are referring to doing this in a NA application. If so, is there any advantage to doing this versus what I've already done with fitting 1 5/8" long tube headers? I think you will run into the steering shaft anyway and you will still have a lot of clearance issues. Doing this in a turbo application is a good bit different than doing it in a NA setup. I think you will run into issues with the oil filter and front accessories as well.

Give it a shot though. New things are good.

Guys,
Yeah, it would be a normally aspirated app. I mainly asked because I thought it might be a viable alternative to the less efficient, more expensive and potentially problem prone headers IE Mac & JBA. My buddy Jan is actually going to be removing his headers for some further mods and offered to lend them to me to just do a "visual" check to see if would even be remotely feasible. Dosen't sound too promising though.:( i just wish someone would design a set of long tubes for our platform. My ride will be mainly street driven and I just want a reliable, efficient, torquey engine that I can have fun with. Thanks again all!:D

You can get long tubes to fit and this is one way to do it.

Very informative and nice job. Thanks!:) Here in my region of Pa. we only have a visual emmisions inspection during the annual vehicle inspection, but I would definetely need the 2 main converters to pass. The hot tip would be to show your photos to the local welder/fabricator and see if he could mod them to clear the floor pan. This guy is very talented. He fabbed up a header for his son's Fiero that is running a GM Eco Tech motor and he did an awesome job.
