Can anyone tell me the difference between the romeo and windsor heads?
How can I tell which is which?
I just acquired a set of heads from a Grand Mark 2004 and I am going to put them on my 4.6 97 Tbird.
What do I need to do to either the romeo or the windsor heads and the 4.6 engine I have?
Their is talk about timing case cover and bolt holes and bolt sizes and possible other stuff I don't know about?
Thanks, lexx007

the easiest way to tell the difference is how many bolt holes they have for the valve covers. i believe the romeo have 11 holes while the windsor have 13 holes.

you don't have to change anything out other then the normal things ie: new dipstick tube gaskets but i hope you did grab the intake manifold if you didn't go back now and grab it!

you're timing cover will do but!!! you will need windsor bolts for the timing cover if you have windsor heads if you're lucky and have romeo you'll be fine.

I tried that but it comes up some engine builders page
ok, thats definitely new....then definitely read these:

http://www.enginebuildermag.com/Article/3541/rebuilding_the_ford_46l.aspx

http://www.enginebuildermag.com/Article/1920/core_corner.aspx

the original article can now be found here:

http://www.enginebuildermag.com/Article/2238/rebuilding_the_ford_46l_sohc_engine.aspx

i will update the link in the sticky'd thread to reflect this URL change

entering "romeo windsor" in the search box in that site, comes up with a few more good results

If the heads have the original cams... I think the Romeo cams had bolt on sprockets and the windsor had Press on sprockets.. unless Ford changed that idiotic notion and made them all the same.

Thanks

I tell ya I just love this site!!!! With everyone help I can build the Tbird I always wanted.
I looks like I have the Romeo heads with the 11 valve cover bolts and it has the bolt on cam sprocket.
Yes I did get the intake and their maybe another one I can get as soon as they put the car in the yard.
New dipstick eh, I better go back and get that too.
Does the starter on a 2004 grand mark the same as the 97 Tbird?
It has that too.
Thanks, lexx007
