What is the best way to determine if you are running rich or lean? What would cause this condition and will you always get a check engine light for this? I am not smoking or stalling, but my exhaust reaks of gas. Mind you I am not running cats.

Most of the time you will throw a CE for either condition.

You can go get a dyno, usually they will give you an A/F readout....

Or get some kind of datalogging sofftware and hardware to check A/F

A dyno is probably a cheaper bet.

Since you have a 94 I would say it most likely would be a rich condition cause by a bad computer that is hanging open fuel injectors. Fairly common problem among 94's.

Miller,

Would this happen even if I were chipped?

Not sure, I would think it would but I am not sure. Lonnie may be a better guy to talk to about that.

Thanks for the feed back. New exhaust with cats will be going in. I am thinking full dual 2.25 - 2.5 inch set up, no mufflers just tips, with a center mounted dual in/dual out magnaflow muffler.

Well,

1) Check a few of the spark plugs, crusty white it's running too rich.
1A) Clean the MAF
1B) Change the O2 Sensors

2) If it's BLACK then you're running too lean.
2A) Check the Haynes manual on the inside of the back of the book.

Thanks,
