I am looking at running a 55 or 75 hp shot of Zex dry nitrous. Do I need I window switch w/ dry nitrous? I didn't think I need one, but not sure.

Can the stock fuel system handle the 75 shot of nitrous? I don't want to go over 75 yet, so do I need to upgrade my fuel pump and all the good stuff yet?

Just pickup a zex kit, run the right plugs, and i would upgrade to a 255lph fuel pump and a clean fuel filter.

Just spray it until you blow it up.

75 should be no problem, just don't get greedy with a 150 shot.

no such thing as safe nitrous, they are pretty much opposite words.

Unless you want to build the shortblock, then nothing is safe.

Hey you might want to start here . These guys answered tons of questions in this thread and pretty much convinced me that this could be a viable option.

you dont need a window switch with a dry system. the stock fuel system will handle a 75 shot but i definitly wouldnt try anything more than that on the stock pump. its not a bad idea to upgrade the pump even on a 75 shot for peice of mind.

I know you were and I think that some of the links talk about a window switch. It is my understanding that you won't need one with the zex kit. Be careful enough to spray only above 2500 rpm and you should be alright

no need to be careful with a dry system, give it hell right off the line. you only have to be careful with a wet system to avoid blown up intake manifolds aka nitrous backfire.

Had one on my SC with an NOS wet kit and it ended up being a pain in the a$$ so I removed it. I don't really think it's needed on an automatic. It's mainly for when you miss a shift and hit the rev limiter.

IMO, a fuel pressure safety switch is more important.

its not a bad idea to have one on a car with a plastic intake manifold (96-97 birds) and a wet kit. it will help prevent blowing the intake manifold up. i'd rather just avoid it all together though and go with a dry kit.

That was the impression I had too which is why I stated that. But, I guess with a dry kit hitting it from a stop is ok, so long as you have the traction to back it up.

yea a dry kit is fine to spray right off the line. a dry kit injects just nitrous into the intake tube while a wet kit injects a mixture of nitrous and gas. this is why it is best to spray a wet kit above 2800 rpms. if there isnt enough velocity in the intake manifold the fuel will settle at the bottom and puddle there causing an explosion if it was to ignite, see joel benders picture. at 2800 rpms there is enough velocity to keep the gas moving through the intake and into the combustion chambers. With a dry kit you dont have to worry about any of this since no gas is injected through the intake tube.

Launching with a wet kit isn't really a problem with an SC. Once the bypass valve closes the supercharger provides plenty of intake velocity. Doesn't hurt to have a 2800 stall converter either.

Information/Replys

The ZEX dry kit comes with a TPS voltage sensor switch that allows the system to spray only at WOT. Certainly one of the safest systems out there. I've yet to see a blown plastic intake or air box due to this system contrary to some statements on here. Guess they are the experts! And yes, you can hit it off the line and no you don't need a window switch. I never have in 6 years.

Of course, no matter the upgrade, it is wise to change the fuel pump to ensure enough fuel to the motor. Tuning is important as well.

As far as Safe goes, don't pay any attention to some of these dumb arses, they don't have a clue about nitrous and talk out their asses.

I ran the system on a stock motor for 6 years and am still running it. You just have to be safe, not greedy and know what you are doing.

BUT THEN, thats the same on any power adder or they go boom. Right Justin H?? If you can't pass correct information then don't pass any!!

What do you mean by tuning?

Explain this for me some more. Does this mean that I can't hit the nitrous more than once in one run or what? What do you mean by greedy, and how do I figure out what I'm doing?

by tuning hes talking about a chip. basically what its going to do is retard the timing so you dont blow your motor. same thing with being greedy, dont run a 200 shot on your motor and think its going to last. stick with 75 or 100 and be happy.

OK thanks! Ford, can you hit the No2 more than once in one race?
when u race usually you are at full throttle the whole time. so the nitrous would be spraying the whole time. any time your nitrous system is activated and you go full throttle the nitrous will spray. listen to 1mtncat he knows his stuff. he tought me pretty much everything i know about nitrous.
