I have a 91 3.8 and the computer is not advancing my distributor. Does anyone know what sensors I could be checking out? When I built the engine I noticed that it didnt have a knock sensor.

Thanks.

I'd first check to see if the SPOUT plug is in, since its whole purpose is to tell the ECU "Hey, don't do any advance, we're working on the timing!"

That's fine. I've replaced the pick up in the distributor, the control module, and I have a different computer with a chip. The problem is still there. That's why I'm thinking there is a bad sensor, or something not allowing the signals to get back to the computer.

Thanks.

If you eliminate the chip, does it advance?

Have you checked the wiring for the SPOUT connector, all the way back to the ECM? An open there will cause the ECU to see the SPOUT plug removed, thereby forcing fixed timing.

After you mentioned the spout I started thinking that that would be a good place to start.
I'll start there.

Thanks,
Curt.
