I want to put a Trans go shift kit in my car with a tranny cooler. I have access to a buddy's garage. Can it be done by myself and my father and is it worth it in a 3.8?

Glenn,

Do "The Mod", forget the Trans-go. It's pretty straight forward and the tranny will thank you for it! I did mine over 2 yrs. ago and it's definitely worth it.

What the hell is the Mod? You can't be posting that **** and then just leave it hanging like that bro. It's like your woman pulling out Mr. Wigglesworth just as hes about to puke and then walking away.

No "the mod" for you flex, it only works for 4R70W transmissions, the tranny in 94-97 cars. With your AOD people have had decent luck with Transgo or B&M.

Thanks rancher but am I still missing something? What is the mod? Or is the joke that there isn't one. Bear with me, I haven't slept in 2 days.

the tech articles are a good place to start learning about these cars.

I think we should create a new forum called "Putting a Shift Kit in a 4R70W" and then when people post to it, the computer automatically replies with a message that reads "Do The Mod as outlined in the Tech Articles."

Think of how little traffic we'd have! The Drivetrain forum would dry up! :D

SORRY!!

I'm sorry for asking a stupid question like putting a shift kit in a 4R70W tranny. Shoot me in the head with your internet shotgun!!!!! LMAO I'm just messin. I don't know if I wanna try tearing my tranny apart and doing that stuff. Somethign just scares me about trannies, maybe the fact that I know NOTHING about them....yeah that's probably it!!

Glenn,

I never touched the inside of a tranny before until I did the mod. Just keep reading the articles over and over and each time you'll pick up something on just what you need to do. Have the articles there when doing the work, you won't believe how smooth everything goes.

EEEEEEEEEKKKKK!!!!!

I'm scared, Joe come help me... LOL

Where do I get the parts for the J-mod??

Is it a drastic improvement?? Well worth it, or a tranny cooler and forget about it? Because I know I'm getting one for x-mas, (tranny cooler that is.)

B&M 24,000 GVW!!!

Glenn,

Check A-Train's article, everything that you need comes from Ford. You'll probably need to go local now that Dan is no longer at 5 Star. Go with the less than 300hp settings, it's definitely worth it! Eventually you would need to update the accumulator pistons anyway so you're getting that out of the way with the mod. The car will love the X-Mas present!

ornithophobia96, sorry if I came off kinda like a jackass there, but I just remember seeing this same exact thread posted a few [dozen] times and they seem to be stressing the Search feature around here pretty heavily nowadays... just trying to help keep things flowing. Good luck on your mod.

Glenn,

I'll have to dig out the slips I have buried somewhere in the morning but I think everything including fluid was less than $100. But that's not including drillbits and a few other tools I needed to buy anyway. You can't have enough tools!

I've decided....

I agree with my dad on this one....LEAVE IT ALONE. I don't have the knowledge or the $$ to be fixing something if I break it. Right now I'm just not in the "car modifying mood"!! Ever been there? I'm just gonna replace the filter and put Mercon V in there and I'm getting a B&M 24,000 GVW tranny cooler. I think I'm just gonna take really good care of her for now. Maybe mess with things later on. Hell I only have 41,000 miles. It's just broken in!!

Glenn,

Have you thought about maybe taking it to shop and have them do it? Like I said earlier, eventually you'll need to update those early style accumulator pistons.
