95 Auto car.....

I've had my shifter handle apart and broken the wires........ I know how to fix that....but what I'd like to know is......my shifter handle is back in the car and the "staple" is in........but it rocks back and forth.... its just not tight like it was before it was disassembled.

I've disassembled a couple and I've never been able to get them tight again.

What am I doing wrong?

There isn't a fix for worn tolerances unless you replace it. Personally I would learn to live with the rocking before I bought a replacement

I believe he already replace it. If I read the post right when he put the new one in, it still is not tight.

I think you broke the tabs inside the shifter when you first pulled it off, they hold it in place to keep it from moving.

Pull the shifter off again and check the top of the metal rod. You'll see 2 little detents, see if there's any black plastic in them. If there is, you broke the tabs and I don't think you can fix the problem.

I did the same thing, ended using another shifter.
