On my old engine one of the head bolts was covered in oil. The threads were soaked. My guess is possible crack in the head where the bolt was. What does the "ed-u-ma-cated" minds here think?

You can take out pretty much any bolt that sits inside the motor and it'll have oil on it... That has always been my experience. Headbolts, cam caps, main caps.

One bolt. Probably head gasket starting to go.

Your not full of crap mylittleblackbird ! It is quite normal to find one or more bolts from different parts of the engine covered in oil. I am unsure why this happens but it is nothing to worry about. I have yet to find a crack associated with this condition.

I've pulled alot of heads in my day and usually they are covered in oil. This is because they are exposed to the inner crankcase when installed.
