Has anyone ever considered using a washer and standard nut on the axles/spindles instead of the "one use only" OEM ones?

Front and Rear Nuts:
M24 - 2.0
36 mm width
21 mm height

Standard nuts are $3.09 each.

I'm thinking, drill a small hole in the axle/knuckle, drill a small hole in the nuts, install the nuts with appropriately sized washers (could probably use the old washers from the OEM nuts), torque the nuts to the proper torque, and then safety wire them to the holes.

They would stay torqued, and to remove them, simply cut the safety wire and unscrew them.

You would never have to buy new "one use only" nuts again.

I think thats a very interesting idea. I usually just reuse them until they look like crap. As long as what you are replacing them with is just as strong, this would be awesome because it is also lockable. Let us know how it goes!

The stock ones are perfectly fine to re-use. Of all the times I've removed them on all the MN12s I've owned and worked on, I have only had to replace 2. Basically if the washer still spins freely on the nut, and the threads are OK, you're fine to re-use it.
