okay im just changing / upgrading springs and accum pistons 1-2 and 3-4
got the 1-2 undone and there was only a dark purple spring in the bottom location that cant be right???? any way replacing with suggested upgraded parts the question is do i proceed with putting blue spring in then accum piston followed by the purple spring on bottom then seal right??? thanks just double checking before re assembly....

and for the 2-3 leave out spring all together if ones there ?????

got to the 2-3 the real big ?? is i have a brand new 2-3 ford oe spring leave it out or put new one in???? kinda at a stand still .., waiting before re assembly..

does any one know why 1-2 only had one spring???

For mild settings 1-2 shift:
F75Z-7F284-AA Light Blue - Top
F7AZ-7F284-BA Purple - Bottom

More aggressive 1-2 shift:
F75Z-7F284-BA Brown - Top
F7AZ-7F284-BA Purple - Bottom

**96/97 updated p/n
2-3 spring removed for more aggressive shifts.

had that in a text from when I did the jmod although i already had all same parts updated on my car already from factory i really was just putting new ones in.

I did the jmod at the same time as when I removed my 2-3 spring so I can't say exactly how much harsher it will be if your not drilling your valve body?? but I doub't much; it just gives slightly harsher shifts, from what I have been told it is safe to do. As for the purple spring only being there I'm not sure it may have came like that but can't say for sure. Are you doing the jmod?

You don't drill into the valve body itself; you drill the holes in the separator plate.

If you drill for the "mild" settings, leaving the 2-3 springs out have the 2-3 shift feeling a tad softer than the 1-2 shift with both 1-2 springs in. I think it feels perfect this way.

which side up on 3 tabbed retainer for the 2-3 bore ?

The tabs should be on the bottom side.

And I found just one spring only under the 1-2 accumulator on my 95 as well, broken into 4 pieces. I think it broke a few months ago when I felt shift change and heard buzz in neutral suddenly.

I used new accumulators and two 1-2 springs (F75Z-7F284-BA brown top and F7AZ-7F284-BA violet bottom) and no spring on 2-3 accumulator with drilled plate which was drilled by RobertP to mild specs. He sent a kit with gaskets.

Yeah, retainer 2-3 goes up in hole with three tabs pointed down and they grip the hole. VB underneath takes load when installed and all's working.

:)

i have a purple spring for the bottom that i just bought but it's p.n. is F3LY-7F284-A. I've read they'll both work for the newer style piston but does any one know which one is the lower rate spring

Does anyone know how these two set-ups compare to each other

F75Z-7F284-AA Light Blue - Top
F7AZ-7F284-BA Purple - Bottom

F75Z-7F284-AA Light Blue - Top
F3LY-7F284-A Purple - Bottom

One of the DARN FEW things all the Gurus agree on is throw the 2-3 Spring AWAY - period.

Per Chart bottom this GREAT Link & the TSB in that Link just above the Chart that looks like the Stock setup in 95 3.8L although as you see it changed on later Models - I'd think you could almost BOG with too hard a 1--2 Shift with the 3.8L :
