Did the Thunderbirds/Cougers ever have stamped steel rear lower control arms? I just noticed in the Haynes repair manual, the under body pics show stamped steel ones.

At first I just guessed it was pre production stuff but idk, pretty sure my 1990 t-bird had regular cast ones.

Stamped steel vs cast + forged steel?

Uh, No... :)

One of my rear lowers took a full hit by a car doing at least 50mph; folded it almost in half but was still in one piece. Destroyed that corner, and some sheet metal, but fixable by replacing parts, and straightening the sheet metal. Bearings and wheel were fine; knuckle folded to match the lower arm.

Stamped steel would have been ripped apart.

Much stronger, imho.

Hello

Yeah the stamped ones twisted when you jacked the car up.

They are not that much lighter either.

The steel arms are 6 times as rigid in torsion as the 89 stamped steel ones were. NO advantage to going backwards and installing the "old" stamped rear lower control arms.
