I'm considering replacing my upstream O2 sensors. I have a new-in-box Standard Motor Products part SG179 O2 sensor. I believe this is the upstream sensor (at least, that's what RockAuto tells me), although a post earlier (in this thread) says that the upstream sensor is part SG144. Is the 179 or the 144 the upstream?

And also - are Standard Motor Products any good? When I go to replace the two O2 sensors, should I use two Standards (I only have one at the moment, my uncle bought it a while ago), or would it be acceptable to mix-and-match (if there's a better alternative to SMP)?

SG179 is the number for the 4.6L. SG144 is the number for the passenger side of the 3.8L, hence the longer lead.

Standard usually makes a good product. Theoretically it shouldn't matter which brand you have as both should perform to OE specs, but my own personal preference is to match parts. I am a fan of symmetry.

As always, I can count on you for a useful answer.

I, too, enjoy symmetry. Looks like I'll be ordering a Standard O2 sensor this weekend.
