Anyone think there ought to be a sticky on how to do a Splitport Head Swap? That is putting Splitport heads, intakes, etc. on a T-Bird Single Port V6.

+1.. and subscribing.. i want to do this to make a bit more power while i wait for my engine to blow up....

Thread Revival, ive been using the search and have come up fruitless. Mind i havnt been through the whole thing yet but i figure there has to be a few more people out there looking for this as well.

My 3.8L is starting to Knock (weird though it wont do it on first start up of the day even rev it up to 3-4 grand but nothing but after about 5 mins of driving i can rev up to 2 and hear it loud and clear on the inside) so im looking for something to replace it with a little more power, but want something that will not take long seeing as this is my DD and the 4.2 seems to be to much for my time restraints.

I wonder if your oil pump is starting to fail. Did you have it checked?

To be honest,, everyones best bet is to just get a 3.8L from a 99+ mustang and swap the entire engine over..

most of the 3.8L in te tbird probably have high mileage and have been threw a couple HG's already meaning the bearings arent in the best of shape.

The newer 3.8L's already have the better headgaskets (MLS) and are setup with the correct waterpumps and intakes.

Havnt checked my Oil pump yet, i had replaced it when i replaced my HG about 2 years ago but ill check it out, thanks for the idea.

MY question for the swap is what will i have to change(i know ill need to tune) but i have a 2000 mustang sitting in a yard around me with low mileage so i was just gonna rip that out of it so what will i need to be replacing? Oil Pan? etc

Winkey,

Well, your tranny and your accessories will bolt up. I think you have to change your throttle linkage and make a cold air induction tube.

If you want to drag along the Mustang's tranny, you'll have to change some pin outs, but there's help in the transmission forum for that.

I don't think you have to bring over the Mustang's ECU or wiring harness.

KK thanks PCD, the ECU and Harness was my main concern, my wiring is not really up to par.

Your best bet is to go to the V6 Mustang sites, V6Power and 3.8 Mustang. Plenty of info there.

You'll need to do some wiring, pretty much moving things around. You'll have to fabricate a return style fuel rail, the 2000 has a returnless system.
