my 94 4.6 currently has all three stock cats with my mufflers removed and has 2.5' piping , its only loud during accelaration so i was thinking of removing my third cat and resonator...now will it make alot of differance from my current setup or barely noticable....or should i just remove all cats+resonator and throw in a flowmaster super 44 or 2 maybe idk??

the other mods i have are K&N air intake and air silencer removed with custom ram air.

If you are in "Location: Norwalk , CA" you better leave those Cats ALONE~! - Resonator is just a pipe with Muffler housing attached & go ride in a car for a day that DRONES like hell around 2K Rpm before you screw with that... You may want to consider finding something more constructive to maintain on your car.

Two things to keep in mind:

1) If you remove the cats, in some parts of the USA, that's a pretty healthy fine due to defeating the emissions control aspect. Your choice.

2) The cats help extend exhaust life by heating the exhaust gas quickly past the acid point (hey, there's a REASON why my 2000 Malibu has 250Kmiles on it with factory exhaust! Between the stainless steel and the cats, plus the mileage I put on it, there's almost NO time it's blowing water out the back ... )

Counterbalancing both is that the cats ARE restrictive.

If you pull them, however, I'd look for some kind of muffler so that the local police don't flag you and pull you over every time you drive down the street ...

Id say rather that just pull them replace them with new hi flow ones. Even better why dont you replace the exaust manifolds for headers. Ive always found that when doing exaust Its better to work from the front back. You will "feel" more starting with headers and hi-flow cats than any deletion or new mufflers

i had no idea cats extend your exhaust life.. guess im leaving mine alone til i can get high flow cats..

so if he took the resonator off and added some flows it would still have horrible drone? guess im leaving that alone too.

3.8 SC Cats and Resonator- Straight 2.5 out as purchased

Only time I hear the radio is at idle. Do it right the first time as I will be doing.

Ahh, that drone. I know it well: high flow cats and true dual straight pipe ending right before the gas tank. The closer to 2000RPM you are, the worse it drones, and it is extremely annoying.

Just have the 2 cats after manifolds or headers and go true duals with an X pipe and have the flowmasters at the back bumper.. Ull be very happy with that set up.. At this moment I still have factory cats and manifolds, and true dual pipe and flowmasters. It sounds great!! No drone! I'm adding an x pipe soon though

Well in my opinion id go with removing the third cat and adding some mufflers. I tried my 5.0 with only the first two and it was loud and sounded like a piece. Added some flows onto her and sounds great!

No matter how much power, you still need back pressure from something in the exhaust. Almost all the good performance mufflers have almost a straight through design anyways and will give you a nicer sound overall. These companies do so much research and development to make a good product for power and sound, there really is no reason to not do 1 or 2 mufflers. Just my opinion after years of changing exhaust systems out.

Same set up here only I still have the Borla's on mine. I like it a little quieter but it still sounds very respectable and turns heads when I open the throttle up.

Here's a short video of mine... Just ignore that slight wine you hear, it's unrelated to the exhaust ... :D
