So, today I dropped the valve body on my '98 Mark VIII LSC to do the J-Mod.

The small black oval strainer is missing. As far as I can tell the valve body has never before been removed, it's a 60K mile car.

And no, I didn't drop it, I have a 2' square drain pan right under the transmission and it didn't fall in.

So the questions are.....

How important is the strainer?

Where do I get one? Part number?

Thanks!

98's didn't have it, they have the cone shaped filter in the back of the case. You can install one however they are a dealer only item and cost about $10-$12 last I bought one.

I did a J-Mod for a friend a couple of days ago, who also has a '98 Mark VIII LSC, and was quite surprised when the strainer fell out as I removed the valve body. So apparantly, at least some '98's got them.
