Hi Folks,

I have a very strange, low pitched "hum" that comes from the front end whenever the suspension compresses or I apply the brakes. The sound is more pronounced the faster I go. For instance, I hear nothing when I go over a speed bump. At 30 mph, I can barely hear it when I come to a stop. But if I am going 70 on the freeway and the suspension moves a fair amount or I hit the brakes, it is quite noticeable. My car is a '97 LX Sport with 78,000 miles.

My thoughts are ball joints or wheel bearings. At over $500 for all new front suspension, I would really like to avoid replacing things that are not broken or worn. Any ideas? Thanks!
