I was chatting with my girlfriends daughter last night, talking about what happened to the car and showing her the picture of the red one I hope to get.

She said she really liked the Blue one better (she doesn't like red) and asked if I was going to paint it blue and put the LE stripe on it cause she really liked that my car was a Limited Edition (I never knew that about her, she's 14 and I didn't think she gave my car a second thought!).

Anyway, we got to talking about that stripe and I said I could put a silver stripe on it like the LE had, but couldn't put "Limited Edition" on it like the blue one had cause it wasn't an LE. Then we started getting goofy and talking about putting her name there, or her moms name there...... and that made me think.

I could put a silver LE type stripe on the car and I could make it say pretty much whatever I wanted it to say.

How about a silver LE type stripe done with reflective 3M tape. And where the LE said "Limited Edition" it could say "Thunderbird GT" or something to that effect as I do plan on putting GT type PI parts on it. Too ricey? It wouldn't stand out any more than the LE stripe stood out.

Why couldn't you put LE badges on it? I have them on my 96. I don't think there is anything wrong with it. Since my car is the only one like it that I know of, it is a Limited Edition, it's limited to only one :)

might seem a lil too ricey even tho we know whats on the inside. id prefer something that would say Stang Slayer or Gt killer or something refering to owning gt's. if you can own a gt then dont put a gt emblem on it, but an emblem puttin it down lol.

as far as using 3m tape or painting i was thinking the same thing but no alpine tbirds came with the le package..............did they?

I've thought of it, believe me. But the GT idea is even more "exclusive" than the LE, and more personal. Besides, if I part the car out those LE badges (and floor mats, and the custom LE 150 MPH gauge faces) could bring enough to pay for the stripes! hehehehe

LOL No apology necessary. Hijacks sometimes lead to ideas.

I don't want to go with chrome as thats what the 96-97 Cougars have.

And I'm not sure I would put GT emblems on it, just put the lettering within the stripes where the LE's have "Limited Edition".

Ok, I've been doing some driving, and whenever I drive I tend to think.

The term "GT" is, in reality, short for "Grand Touring". It has of late been transposed into something meaning "high performance". Also, the term "GT" isn't the express property of Mustangs. Other companies make GT's, Toyota Celica GT, Pontiac Grand Prix GT,

Now, knowing that, what car would you rather have a "grand tour" in? A quick, comfortable Thunderbird or a quick, cramped Mustang?

I prefer to make a Thunderbird GT.

HO, SVT, COBRA, SHO, (SC), are all specific in meaning and related to a specific brand, model, engine etc. Inapproriate use of them just makes you look like a wannabe. It's no different then putting Type R, VTEC and Mazdaspeed badges where they don't belong. :thumbsd:

GT is a bit different. As he said it's gotten much broader generic use in the industry and in fact it means (or meant) "Grand Touring" - but I still wouldn't put it on a tbird/cougar of mine...

imo it seems a bit tacky for the owner to be the one deciding it's a "GT". I'll leave that to the manufacturers and aftermarket new car builders to decide what to call it.

How about putting "Traveler Edition" in the stripe? :D

Is it a good idea to let a 14 yr old girl influence your thinking? Maybe bedazzle the airbag cover and shifter handle with pink & diamond stick on cellphone jewels as well? Perhaps put "That's Hot" in the stripe instead?

LOL Well, she's not influencing me all that much. She wanted me to paint it green!! And believe it or not, she's not all that into the pink, and rhinestone, and cell phone thing (Well, not yet anyway)

As for the stripe, well, we'll just have to wait and see.

i agree, make it something both custom and personal. I figure I will have the le stripes on mine painted a dark shadow grey to match the graphite wheels. Then have "steel talon" where the limited edition phrase is on the side. I'll still keep the le badges, just custom the rest.

LOL No thank you. I DON'T want the new Bird to be a Deer Killer (now if it were to wipe out a Pony or two...... :D :D )
