Raised top, bigger maf, bigger t-body, better ic, MP inlet plenum, MP2 supercharger, bigger valves, cam. Get rid of anything stock on the exhaust except for manifolds. I would do this first.

I have done the things above up to the MP stuff. Ran out of money.

Also if you redo the exhust you might consider 96-97 factory shorty headers. From a junkyard they'll run you about 100 dollars. That's what I bought mine for. And as for Julian's suggestions. I agree, with the things he's done that car is incredibly fast.

Let's look at it this way, you can get two or three Mustangs into the 10s, before you can get an SC into the 11s. If you wanna go fast for less, get a 5.0L Bird.

Yeah but how many people have 5.0L birds and 5.0L mustangs. BE DIFFERENT! I think it's worth the money, heck look at my car. How many 11 second 3.8L t-birds are there? Well the answer is zero right now but in a eyar that will be different :D

good attitude, there are a number of people in the 11's with 3.8's. Probably will hit 10's in 1 week.

yeah yeah. I think I'm actually in the low 16's right now but the engine was totaly cold and the spark plugs sucked. <--- More wishful thinking.

LOL Thomas. Reality check from club clash? Happens to all of us. I got beat by a damm cadiallic once. It was an ugly car too. Anyway...

why don't you put the sc drivetrain in your car? That has to be good for like 70-90hp. isn't yours 140 stock and a 95sc is 230 stock. Now that would be a Mod!

You could tear the motor apart as well and port/polish the heads. Maybe a littling boring//stroking BB etc.

Why not??

Then there is always n20. I really want an n20 kit. But my fuel pump is on the go though.

I can't decide to just swap to a v-8 or blow a lot of money modding.

Julian, Yeah a bit of a reality check. That was a really chitty day. Well yeah I'm beginning to think I'll rebuild the SC motor, even though it's more "fun" to take apart than the na, and put in forged rods and pistons along with some boring on the block, p&p the heads and lower intake, then start saving up for the magnum powers gen II blower and all those good bolt-ons. The Vortech and 4.2 would end up being the same price as that stuff though so I don't know yet. Of course I have the SC motor and I don't have a vortech or 4.2 so it's all about availability.

wow Julian good idea, where did you ever get that from??? :D

Thomas- I dont think you lost 90 hp from your plugs being mis gapped, maybe 20 or 30 max. From riding in your car when everything was fine it felt just like my cavalier which was a mid-high 16 second car.
I also dont know what to do, save up for an 03 cobra and a lentech tranny or just become the bolt on king with my sc. I think though that I will keep my sc a v6 and mod the hell out of it. Eventually I'll own a stang again and I'll just throw a big block in it for fun.

Well with the crappily gapped plugs (put them in the day before the meet) my low end was really bad. Like there was a rough idle and it was sluggish up until about 2500rpm. That could easily take off a few tenths in the 1/4.

I think that it is great that supercoupe 3.8L's are getting into the 10's soon, but I think it would be Easier/Cheaper to do it with a different supercharger or a turbo(s) setup. I'm still unsure of my path but for now I've got my Vortech V1 on my 96' but I haven't been able to get it on the dyno yet, I Should be at a nice mild 250rwhp/270rwtq with only 8psi boost (my car is at 165rwhp/212tq N/A). Next year or so I will have a 4.2L shortblock build up (about 1700$ invested for that) and I'm going to crank the boost up to ~15psi on the V1, That same setup is known for around 400rwhp/400rwtq in a 3.8L mustang. I'm hoping to reach mid/high 11's with that setup. (and UNDER 6000$ invested into the car) I've got 2000$ invested into heads, Cam, Intakes, 60mm TB, 42# injector, Univer MAF, and 255LPH pump. Another 1200$ in the vortech setup. And a total of about 1200$ for FRPP 3.73 8.8 Rear and 3200rpm stall converter. My 96' naturallly asperated walks slowly away from my stock supercoupe above 30mph and traps at the same Time on my G-tech.

Good luck with the swap and I'm hoping that you can get the numbers you are shooting for. Too bad you didn't make it down to the clash I'd be interested to see what times you are running with your n/a. Didn't Thomas say somewhere that he walked v8's with his n/a3.8??:D :D
I'm also interested in which supercharger you feel would be more adequate to put an sc into the 11's or 10s. Unless you are talking about a D-1sc procharger or bigger I think that our roots are pretty decent. I'm still waiting for somebody to fabricate a kb setup for our cars then I'll be happy as a hog in slop. :zbeer:

well, currently my best time is [email protected], that is with Oversized exhaust (planned ahead for the vortech) and the need for a stall converter, I had no low end torque due to the exhaust. I now have a 3200rpm 9" converter awaiting my built 4R70W and I think that will gain me enough to drop down to ~15.7 N/A if not faster, I've got 210rwtq on tap @3200rpm and only [email protected] the current 1800rpm stall. That extra 50ft-lbs along with more torque mulitiplication for a longer period of time will knock off at least .5 in the 1/4.

I would like to build a Custom Twin turbo setup using 2 60trim T3 turbos which would support 600rwhp and make full boost @ 3000rpm. I think turbos are the key to making more HP for cheaper in our cars. The Eaton M90 just takes up WAY too much HP, makes WAY too much heat, and puts alot of stress on the crank. I've also been tossing around the ideal of building a custom lower intake and seting up a Autorotor 1.5 or 2.2 on my engine which would be simpler than a turbo setup and is more effecent than a eaton.

Vortech style superchargers also are effecent but do not provide boost on the bottom end, using a stall converter or manual transmission allows you to see boost of the line though. Roots/screw blowers are nice for a street car, its line having a 500CID bigblock under the hood with gobs of torque off the line. I think for a faster strip car a vortech style supercharger would be better than a eaton though.

I'm assuming the 16.4 is n/a? if so it sounds like your sc'ed 3.8 has some serious issues, as those cars run mid to low 15s stock. I agree somewhat with your figures regarding putting your trans/stall in, I could see a 15.7-15.9 with the stall and trans, but I guess only time willl tell. Good luck with the project.

I can walk 5.0's don't you doubt it. It was those DAMMED PLUGS! I've kept up with a 96-97 v8 cougar. Don't ask me how but I have. All I know is it's happened on several occassions.

Rancher, I could give you my car for like 3 months and you could throw in some twin T3's and tune it if you'd like :D I wouldn't mind at all!

lol walking a car and keeping up with one are two different things. It's all in how you look at it I guess. I can believe that you can keep up or beat darrell and I can also see how you could "keep up" with jeremy, I guess.
